A 16-year-old boy from Whitestone, Queens, was arrested Tuesday evening after police said he burglarized a store in Cedarhurst, tried to steal items from a second business, and then was caught by officers responding to the call of an intoxicated man.

Nassau County police said the officers found Jonathan Polansky of 150th Place when they responded to the call on Washington Avenue.

Officers said he was "disoriented" and arrested him, charging him with two counts of third-degree burglary and criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was transported to a local hospital for a medical evaluation, police said.

Police said Polansky entered the first store, Sunflowers Hats and Accessories on Central Avenue, just after 5 p.m. Tuesday and took $500 cash from a metal lock box, $150 from a cash register, $100 from envelopes near the register, a laptop and $150 worth of costume jewelry and placed all of it in a brown paper bag. Then he went to the second floor of the building, police said, and entered an office suite there and attempted to steal "assorted items" from employees.

But, police said, Polansky was confronted by an employee and fled the scene.

A short time later, police said, a call reported "an intoxicated male."

Officers responded and arrested Polansky.

Polansky is scheduled for arraignment Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
