Cops: Teen charged in Uniondale robbery that yielded $1
A 16-year-old from Uniondale was arrested in an armed street robbery that yielded him $1, Nassau County police said.
The robbery Sunday evening took place near Emerson Street - and followed another armed robbery by about two hours and occurred about an hour before an assault that took place on the same corner where the first armed robbery took place. Police said they are trying to determine if any of the three incidents are connected, but have not found any connections.
Police said Tory Phillips, 16, of Mize Court, was in a group of males on foot and bicycle who approached a 20-year-old man near Emerson Street. Phillips had a gun and demanded the victim's wallet, containing $1, police said.
Officers arrested Phillips a short time later and found the gun, police said.
He was charged with first-degree and second-degree robbery and is scheduled for arraignment Monday in First District Court in Hempstead.
Meanwhile, police said they are trying to determine if the robbery allegedly involving Phillips is connected in any way to an earlier street robbery near the corner of Henry Street and Armond Street in Uniondale.
That robbery took place at 9:49 p.m., police said.
Nassau County police said the victim, identified as a 55-year-old man, had been dropped off at the corner of Henry and Uniondale Avenue and was walking on Henry when the gunman approached. Police said the robber removed a black revolver from his waistband - then took the victim's wallet and fled on foot.
The gunman was described as being about 17 years old, 5-foot-4 and 140 pounds.
The street corner also was the scene of an assault just after midnight, police said.
Officers were called to the corner of Henry and Armond at 12:01 a.m. Monday, where a 38-year-old man was "set upon" by two or three assailants - one of whom stabbed the victim in the chest and stomach, police said.
The victim went home after the attack and his wife called police. The man was then taken to Nassau University Medical Center for treatment. His injuries were not life-threatening, according to police.
Police are asking anyone with information about any of the incidents to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
All calls will remain confidential, police said.
