An argument on a street in Elmont turned into a shooting that left a teen wounded early Wednesday, police said.

Nassau County police said the shooting occurred on Blackstone Street near Gotham Avenue at about 12:20 a.m.

The 19-year-old victim was shot in the leg above his knee, police said.

He was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated and later released.

Police said the teen and a 20-year-old friend were walking on Blackstone Street when they were confronted by a group, leading to what police called "a verbal altercation."

Gunshots were then fired, police said, and the assailants fled the scene in an automobile.
