A 16-year-old boy was arrested Thursday, accused of setting off a firework and igniting a fire in July that burned a playground set behind an elementary school in Wantagh, police said.
The teen was charged as a juvenile in the fire on July 23 at the Wantagh Elementary School on Beech Street.
The incident took place at about 1:20 p.m., Nassau County police said. The type of firework was not disclosed.
Police said the teen surrendered at the Seventh Precinct Thursday. He was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief and will appear March 20 in Family Court.
