A Williston Park teenager was arrested Friday for allegedly stabbing his 14-year-old brother after telling him that he wanted to kill himself, Nassau police said.

Police said Ruben A. Renderos, 18, told his younger brother that he wanted to commit suicide Friday while the two were home alone -- then told his brother that he would kill him, too, "so he would not suffer being lonely," police said in a news release.

Renderos grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed his brother multiple times in the back, head and chest, police said. The 14-year-old called his parents after the attack and asked them to call the police, and Renderos fled the home on foot.

Third Precinct officers conducted a search and later found Renderos walking on Jackson Avenue near Chaminade High School in Mineola. Police arrested him shortly before 8 p.m.

His brother was taken to a hospital, where he is listed in stable condition, police said.

Renderos of Willis Avenue is charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, and fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon.

He was arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead. Online records show he was released without bail, but that a temporary order of protection was issued.
