Cops: Teen tried to use fake bill for food
A teen who tried to pay for food with a $100 bill at a Burger King in Hicksville Thursday fled after the manager called police, Nassau County police said.
An hour later, police said, Shakeda Hinton, 17, of 160th Street in Jamaica, Queens, tried to make a similar purchase at a Johnny Rockets restaurant at the nearby Broadway Mall.
The manager there called police and Hinton was arrested after police determined the $100 bill was counterfeit.
Hinton was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument. She was scheduled for arraignment Friday in First District Court in Hempstead.
Police said Hinton tried to pass a counterfeit $100 bill at the Burger King on Broadway at 5 p.m., then tried to pass a counterfeit $100 bill at the Johnny Rockets at 6 p.m.
Police did not say what tipped off the store managers.
