Cops: Teens attempted to rob liquor store
The masked suspects, described as 13 to 15 years old and armed with weapons, entered Splendid Wine and Liquors on Uniondale Avenue at 8:40 p.m., detectives said.
The first suspect struck one of the employees repeatedly with a pipe or pole while the second suspect set fire to an aerosol can and menaced the other worker, detectives said. Neither employee was burned by the makeshift blowtorch, police said.
The teens attempted to take cash from the register, but the injured workers were able to fend them off, police said. The suspects fled on Jerusalem Avenue without stealing any money, police said.
Both employees suffered cuts and bruises. One of the victims, a 35-year-old man, was treated at a hospital while the other, a 26-year-old man, was treated at the scene for his injuries, police said. The first suspect is described as about 5-foot-11 and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and the other is described as 5-foot-5 and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, according to police.
Police ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
