Cops: Teens charged in series of burglaries
Two Nassau County teenagers have been arrested in a series of burglaries in Elmont and New Hyde Park that netted them more than $14,000 in electronics, jewelry and cash, Nassau County police said Thursday.
The two boys, ages 15 and 16, were arrested Tuesday, police said. Their names are being withheld and each has been released to his parents.
A police spokesman said they will appear in Family Court but did not have a date for their appearance. Each teenager is charged with four counts of burglary.
The two burglarized four homes between Sept. 14 and Dec. 13, police said.
During one break-in -- between 7 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 13 on Fieldmore Street in Elmont -- the two took electronics, jewelry and cash worth approximately $7,620, police said.
The boys used virtually the same tactic in each burglary, police said -- knocking on the door to make sure the residence was unoccupied and then entering through an unlocked window.
They did break a window to gain entry in one burglary, on Sept. 14 on Franklin Street in Elmont, police said.
The other two break-ins were Sept. 26 on Crown Avenue in Elmont and Oct. 20 on 5th Avenue in New Hyde Park.
The spokesman said items from the burglaries were recovered and invoiced but could not be more specific.
