Cops: Teens charged with stealing necklace
Police arrested two boys -- one 17, the other 15 -- after they robbed a 14-year-old girl on a street in Westbury on Wednesday, police said.
Nassau Police said the two boys were riding a bicycle on Drexel Avenue Wednesday, the 15-year-old on the back, when they saw the girl walking. The 15-year-old jumped off the bike, approached the girl and "pulled a necklace off her neck," police said. The duo then fled, police said.
A radio alert was broadcast regarding the incident. Police said officers in the area saw the two boys and arrested them. Police said Yobani Ruiz, 17, of Brook Street in New Cassel, was charged with second-degree robbery. The 15-year-old was charged as a juvenile and has not been identified.
The necklace was not recovered, according to police.
Ruiz was scheduled for arraignment in First District Court in Hempstead Thursday. Arraignment details for the younger boy were not available.
