Cops: Tenn. man arrested in Great Neck bank robbery
A 70-year-old Tennessee man was arrested in Queens on Sunday, charged with robbing a Great Neck bank last month, Nassau County police said.
Police said Robbery Squad detectives, assisted by the Lake Success police, arrested Raymond Young, of 3190 Morning View Dr., Memphis, at an undisclosed location at 3 a.m.
Young was charged with first-degree robbery and first-degree criminal use of a firearm. He was held without bail after being arraigned and is scheduled to be back in court Wednesday.
Police said Young robbed a Chase bank branch on Middle Neck Road at gunpoint on Sept. 27 at about 9:30 a.m.
Wearing a light-colored winter cap, green shirt, blue pants and white sneakers, Young entered the bank, flashed the handgun and "verbally demanded money from a teller," police said. Police said six employees and one customer were present. No one was injured.
After receiving cash, police said Young fled the scene.
Police had made Young the subject of a Crime Stoppers alert, but it was not immediately clear what led police to arrest and charge Young.
