A Nassau County police officer was injured when he was struck by a truck in Syosset during a traffic stop Monday morning, police said.

Police said the officer had just pulled over a car and was walking back to his vehicle on the Long Island Expressway's south service road when a large truck carrying pipes hit him, causing him to fall to the ground at 11:52 a.m.

The police car's emergency lights were on, police said.

The truck continued going east without stopping.

The officer called for assistance and was taken to a hospital. He was treated for injuries to his head, neck and back, and released, police said.

Police did not release the name of the officer.

Detectives request anyone with information to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
