Two Hempstead men were arrested on reckless endangerment and weapons charges Tuesday morning after the Nassau County police ShotSpotter detection system alerted officers to gunfire outside a Uniondale home.

First Precinct officers "responded to a ShotSpotter call for multiple shots fired" shortly after 4 a.m. at a home in the 800 block of Cornwell Avenue, police said in a Tuesday afternoon news release.

"Upon police arrival a witness provided a description of the subjects involved," and where they were located, the release said. Police recovered four 9-mm shell casings from the scene, police said.

Police found the suspects, Antonio A. Bennett, 23, of 16 Foster Place, and Daniel Desbas, 25, of 36 Carman Ave., walking along Davis Avenue in Uniondale and took them into custody without incident, police said. A loaded 9mm-handgun was in Bennett's possession, police said.

Bennett was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said.

Desbas was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and second-degree criminal use of a firearm, police said.

They are to be arraigned Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
