Two men were killed Monday on the Meadowbrook Parkway after they got out of their disabled car and were hit by a truck, State Police said.
No criminality is suspected so far in the crash, which caused the closure of the southbound lanes, just south of the Southern State Parkway in Roosevelt, for an investigation, State Police said.
The victims had been riding in a white Nissan Maxima that was left on the "right shoulder of the safety zone area," a State Police spokesman said.
A GMC truck with Virginia plates, heading south on the Meadowbrook, struck both men about 12:30 p.m. The unidentified men were pronounced dead at the scene. The GMC driver, who remained at the scene, was not immediately identified.
The State Police collision reconstruction unit remained at the scene into the afternoon, trying to determine where the men were when they were hit and at what point the truck hit their car.
