Two Queens men, one a security guard, were arrested Sunday after they stole tires and rims from new vehicles being stored in the lot at Belmont Park racetrack in Elmont, Nassau County police said.

The guard, an Arrow Security employee identified as Sampson Ashin, 24, of Woodhaven Boulevard, Woodhaven, had been hired to protect the vehicles, police said.

Ashin and Sunil Singh, 36, of 179th Place, Jamaica, were each charged with four counts of fourth-degree grand larceny following their arrests at 3:25 p.m. Both are scheduled for arraignment Monday in First District Court in Hempstead.

Police said that after stealing the tires and rims from the vehicles, which belonged to Bayside Chrysler Jeep Dodge and were being stored in the lot, Ashin and Singh then tried to sell the wheels on Craigslist. It was not immediately clear when the thefts occurred.
