Cops: Two women sought in larceny at Massapequa mall

Two women are being sought by Nassau County police for grand larceny after they lifted an employee's wallet from a backroom of a store in the Westfield Sunrise Mall in Massapequa and used the credit cards inside for more than $1,000 in purchases, police said.

The theft took place around noon on Nov. 6, police said in a news release issued Saturday. The women had requested to try on various items in the fitting room at Sasha. Instead, they entered a nearby backroom used as an office by employees to store their personal belongings, police said, and stole a wallet belonging to a 47-year-old woman.

"I guess they fooled them about trying on things then just went around the corner into the office, reached in her purse and grabbed her wallet and went on a shopping spree," a police spokeswoman said.

The women then went to various stores around the mall, including Foot Locker, and used the credit cards to rack up more than $1,000 in charges, the spokeswoman said.

The two women are not known to the victim, and no other similar crimes have been recently reported, the spokeswoman said.

Both suspects are described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall and about 160 pounds, police said. One is believed to be between 18 and 22 years old and the other between the ages of 46 and 49.

Police have released two surveillance photos of the suspects. Detectives request anyone with information is asked to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
