Cops: Uniondale man arrested in courthouse
A Uniondale man who police said became unruly while inside First District Court in Hempstead was arrested Monday and charged with assaulting court officers who tried to calm him down, Nassau police said.
Jamel Ricks, 31, of 601 Park Ave. is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in the same Hempstead court building that police said court officers removed him from after he was part of a disturbance that began in an elevator shortly before 11 a.m.
Police said Ricks continued to scream and curse after being escorted from the building, and that he ran away from the officers when they said they were placing him under arrest.
Two officers were hurt during the chase and were treated at a hospital for knee, tendon and elbow injuries, police said.
Ricks is charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
