Cops: Valley Stream man assaulted officer
A 20-year-old Valley Stream man was charged with assault on a police officer early Saturday after an officer suffered an injured back trying to break up a fight, Nassau County police said.
Justin G. Gamba was charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, police said.
About 3 a.m., two police officers were at the emergency room of Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre when they assisted a paramedic and a nurse who were trying to restrain Gamba. He was "highly intoxicated," police said.
Gamba refused all directions to stop fighting and during the struggle one officer suffered a back injury, police said. The officer was treated and released from the hospital.
Gamba wasn't injured but was admitted to the hospital, police said.
He was awaiting arraignment Saturday.
