A 54-year-old man sustained head trauma and broken bones but no life-threatening injuries when he was struck by a van while attempting to cross Merrick Road in Merrick Thursday evening, Nassau County police said.

The identity of the victim was not released. Neither was the identity of the van driver.

Police said the injured man was transported to a hospital by Merrick Fire Department ambulance and that the man was in stable condition.

The accident occurred on westbound Merrick Road at 6:14 p.m., police said.

Police said the vehicle involved was a 2008 Chevrolet van -- and said the driver was not charged.
