The victim and an alert passerby caught and held a man suspected of stealing a cellphone Monday in Uniondale, Nassau County police said.
The suspect -- Rodney Arthur, 20, of 1251 Warwick St., Uniondale -- is charged with third-degree robbery.
Arthur approached a 16-year-old youth who was walking on Ruxton Street at 6:18 p.m. and asked to borrow the young man's cellphone to make a call, police said.
Once given the phone by the youth, Arthur ran off, police said. The victim chased Arthur, eventually catching up with him and then being pushed away.
A man, 24, saw the scuffle and helped the victim catch Arthur on Warwick Street, where the two held him for police, according to a news release.
Arthur was arraigned Tuesday and held on a bail of $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.
Police said no injuries were reported and that the cellphone was not recovered.
