A Walmart shopper was arrested after police said he threatened an employee "by displaying what appeared to be a handgun in his waistband," police said Monday morning.

The arrest Sunday night of Joseph Giordano, 23, of 3rd Avenue, Franklin Square, occurred shortly after the 6:50 p.m. incident at the Walmart at 77 Green Acres Rd., Valley Stream, Nassau County police said.

Giordano became enraged after the worker, a stock clerk, had asked a member of Giordano's family "to step aside so that he could finish putting items away," police said in a news release.

The suspect then displayed an apparent handgun in his waistband and "told the victim he would be waiting outside for him," police said. No gun was recovered and there were no injuries, police said.

Giordano was arrested at the scene and he faces a charge of second-degree menacing at his arraignment Monday at First District Court in Hempstead, police said.
