Cops: Woman arrested in string of TD Bank heists

A woman who robbed five TD Bank branches in Nassau County -- and tried to rob two others -- was in custody Friday along with two accomplices in the latest heist, police said.

Monique Davis, 36, was arrested with the two suspected male accomplices after the Thursday night robbery of a TD Bank branch on Mineola Avenue in Roslyn Heights, Nassau County police said.

Davis, whose address was not available, was charged with four counts of second-degree robbery, two counts of third-degree robbery and with resisting arrest.

Police said they are reviewing video surveillance from earlier robberies, which show another male accomplice who has not been arrested.

Thursday's robbery occurred about 8 p.m., when, police said, Davis and Anthony Brown, 24, whose address also was not available, entered the Roslyn Heights bank and Davis "attempted to conduct a transaction," only to demand cash from the teller when asked for identification.

The teller handed over more than $1,000, police said.

Davis and Brown fled on foot, police said, but were arrested nearby less than an hour later. Police said that three employees were present during the robbery Thursday and said none were hurt.

Police said Brown "was in cellphone contact" with another man, Charles Sutton, 37, of 28 Jennings Ave., Patchogue, during the robbery; he also was arrested.

That arrest came after, police said, officers stopped Sutton's 2013 Hyundai on Mineola Avenue -- and he presented them with a New Jersey license bearing a false name. He also had a stun gun when arrested, police said.

Sutton was charged with second-degree robbery, second-degree possession of a forged instrument, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and with vehicle and traffic law violations. Brown was charged with second-degree robbery.

Police said that a subsequent investigation linked Davis to a slew of robberies and attempted robberies -- all of them at TD Bank branches in Nassau.

Those incidents include: TD Bank on Old Country Road, New Cassel, on Jan. 24 and Feb. 7; TD Bank branch on Hempstead Turnpike, East Meadow, and a TD Bank branch on Sunrise Highway, Wantagh, both on Jan. 27; and, a TD Bank branch on Franklin Avenue, Garden City, on Jan. 30.

The initial court appearances of Davis, Brown and Sutton were supposed to be Friday, at First District Court in Hempstead, but the proceedings were adjourned for another day because of what a police officer told the judge were "fingerprint issues."

A police spokesman did not return calls seeking an explanation.
