Nassau County police said a woman approached another woman in a supermarket parking lot in Franklin Square Sunday, stabbed the woman in the hand, ear and neck, stole her Coach pocketbook and fled.

Police said officers arrested Mairead Kelleher, 46, of Lincoln Street, Franklin Square, a short time later near Lincoln Street and Van Buren Avenue and recovered the pocketbook and a 14-inch serrated kitchen knife used in the attack.

The victim, a 41-year-old woman, was transported to a local hospital where she received stitches to her hand, ear and neck, police said in a Monday morning news release.

The attack took place at 7:10 p.m. outside the Pathmark on Franklin Avenue, police said.

Kelleher was charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon. She is scheduled for arraignment Monday in First District Court in Hempstead.
