Cops: Woman hits trooper's car trying to flee
A West Islip woman pulled over on the Southern State Parkway Wednesday in North Merrick for erratic driving faces a charge of driving while impaired by drugs after she tried to drive away, State Police said.
Troopers said Christine Cichon, 35, was driving a black Jeep east on the parkway, east of the Meadowbrook Parkway, at about 2:58 a.m.
Responding to a call of a person driving erratically, troopers saw the Jeep moving on the eastbound shoulder of the roadway, according to a news release.
Troopers pulled over the vehicle near the Wantagh Parkway exit and when they walked up to the Jeep, the driver attempted to drive off, striking one of the trooper's cars, the release said.
Cichon was then arrested and failed sobriety tests, the release said, and was charged with DWI drugs, fleeing a police officer and several traffic violations.
Her arraignment information was not immediately available.
