Police continue to search for a man who stole a gold necklace from a 67-year-old grandmother Friday afternoon in Freeport.

The robbery occurred about 12:30 p.m. in the vicinity of Rutland Road and Hillside Avenue.

Police said the male subject approached the victim from behind as she was walking with her 1-year-old grandson. The man grabbed her around the neck and removed a gold chain and pendant, police said.

The subject then entered a black Nissan Maxima and fled the scene westbound on Hillside Avenue to southbound North Columbus Avenue. He was described as about 40 years old, 5-9 and 175 pounds with gray hair. He was wearing a black T-shirt with "SS" on the front, police said.

No injuries were reported.
