An off-duty Nassau County correction officer was arrested after a shooting rampage that left two dead and another wounded early Wednesday in Nassau, police said.

Police said that following the shootings in East Meadow and Hempstead, the suspect took a 23-year-old woman hostage and fled in a Mitsubishi Montero.

The officer, identified as Kim Wolfe, 43, was arrested at 5:45 a.m. in that vehicle on Harriet Avenue in Hempstead.

She had a weapon, but surrendered without incident, police said.

The hostage, believed to be a niece of Wolfe, was released unharmed, police said.

Police said the first victim was a nurse who was on break at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow.

Hospital officials identified the victim as Stacie Williams, 45, of Westbury, who had worked at NUMC for 23 years as a patient care assistant in the labor and delivery suite. She was found shot several times outside the building at 1:35 a.m. and was pronounced dead at 2:04 a.m.

Police said it is believed that Wolfe then drove to Hempstead, where police said she shot two men - one fatally - on Vermont Avenue.

The victim who survived was shot in the leg, police said. His condition was not immediately known Wednesday.

Police said one of the men is believed to be an uncle of Wolfe, while the other may be her grandfather. That could not immediately be confirmed.
