A New Cassel man stabbed a woman with a kitchen knife as she exited a Westbury building Thursday night and then beat a witness with a baseball bat when he attempted to intervene, Nassau police said.

Luis Andrade, 56, of Siegel St., is charged with two counts of second-degree assault and two counts of possession of a dangerous weapon.

Police said Andrade stabbed the 24-year-old female victim in the abdomen with a kitchen knife at 11:30 p.m. on Thursday as she walked out of a building in Westbury.

The male victim, 40, witnessed the assault and attempted to assist the woman. But, police said Andrade beat with him a metal baseball bat, separating his left shoulder and leaving him with a concussion.

Nassau police declined to disclose the relationship between Andrade and the woman. Police said Andrade did not know the man.

Both victims were taken to Nassau University Medical Center and treated for non life threatening injuries.

Andrade was arraigned on Friday in First District Court in Hempstead.
