When words failed her, according to Nassau police, Crystal Martin, 23, of Westbury settled an argument with a claw hammer.

Police said the argument started with a female acquaintance of Martin's at 11:55 Saturday night in a TGI Friday's restaurant at 829 Merrick Ave. in Westbury. Soon after they left the restaurant, police said, Martin removed a claw hammer from her purse and struck the victim on the left side of her head. When a witness grabbed the hammer, Martin resorted to punching, police said.

The victim was taken to Nassau University Medical Center. Police said the hammer was recovered. The cause of the argument was not disclosed.

Martin surrendered to police at 3:30 a.m. Sunday and was charged with assault and possession of a dangerous weapon. She will be arraigned today in First District Court.
