A Poughkeepsie woman who lifted a credit card from a relative's wallet during a family visit was arrested Friday on identity theft charges, Nassau police said.

Erin J. Galbraith, 32, allegedly took the credit card when the relative from Oceanside was visiting her on Nov. 26, police said. She used the card to make several purchases totaling more than $6,800 in Wappingers Falls, Poughkeepsie and Fishkill on Nov. 27.

Surveillance video showed the defendant making the purchases, and the relative made a positive identification after reviewing the video, police said.

Galbraith admitted the theft in a telephone interview, police said, and surrendered to Fourth Squad detectives on Friday in Hewlett.

She is charged with four counts of identity theft and was scheduled to be arraigned Friday in First District Court in Hempstead.
