Cops: Workers escape, foil would-be robber
An attempted armed robbery of a Dunkin' Donuts in Elmont was thwarted Monday night when two females employees fled to the store basement and the robber fled empty-handed, Nassau County police said.
One of the two women suffered a knee injury when she fell while fleeing, police said. She was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Police said the attempted robbery occurred at the store on Linden Boulevard at about 10:20 p.m.
Police said the suspected robber, described as being about 5-foot-10 with a medium build and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, green sweatpants and a red bandanna over his face, entered the store and displayed a handgun.
He demanded cash. But, instead of handing over any money, police said, the two women ran to the basement -- and waited for police.
