He tried to rob a bank, but apparently was either too impatient or nervous to wait around for any cash, police said.

Now, Nassau County police are searching for the would-be robber, who they said tried to rob the Citibank branch on Merrick Road in Rockville Centre just before noon Thursday.

Police said the suspect, believed to be in his mid-to-late 30s or early 40s, about 5-foot-7 and wearing a light blue button-down shirt, black jeans, a bandanna and sunglasses, walked into the bank -- and handed a demand note to a teller.

Police said there with 10 employees and two customers in the bank at the time.

But before the teller could comply with the would-be robber's demand, police said he "suddenly left the bank without any proceeds" and fled north through a rear parking lot.

No one was injured.

Police are asking anyone with information about the attempted robbery to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
