A would-be robber handed a Cedarhurst bank teller a note demanding money Wednesday, police said, but fled the bank before getting any cash.

The teller at Citibank, 530 Central Ave. turned around momentarily, after reading the robbery note, police said, and when the teller turned back toward the robber, he was walking away.

Nassau police said the man, who was about 50 years old, was 5 feet, 9 inches tall and had a scruffy white beard. He was wearing a blue denim baseball cap, glasses and a gray jacket with a hoodie, police said.

He was last seen on foot on Central Avenue shortly after the 11 a.m. robbery attempt, police said.

There were no customers in the bank at the time and no injuries.

Detectives asked that anyone with information concerning the incident contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
