A Wyandanch man was charged with slashing his friend with a kitchen knife early Saturday, Nassau police said, after a heated spat over a key to unlock a chained bicycle.

Nilson Lagos Rivera, 19, was at a home on 3rd Street in Hicksville at 4:30 a.m. when he and a friend, 28, began arguing over the key to the pad lock that held both of their bicycles on a nearby street, police said. Earlier that night, the victim and Rivera, of 17 North Ave., in Wyandanch, had both locked their bicycles together, and Rivera wanted the key to unlock his bicycle, police said.

From the counter, Rivera picked up a kitchen knife before the victim could retrieve the key and started slashing the victim with the knife, police said. Rivera took the victim's keys and ran from the home, police said, adding the victim sustained cuts to his arms, head, fingers, shoulder. He was treated at a hospital and released.

Rivera was arrested Saturday by Bureau of Special Operations police officers and charged with first-degree robbery. He faces arraignment Sunday in First District Court in Hempstead.
