An auto accident with injuries closed three lanes of the westbound Long Island Expressway near Exit 40 in Old Westbury for about an hour early Wednesday, police said.

The crash, which occurred at 6:35 a.m., closed the center and left lanes, as well as the high-occupancy vehicle lane, Nassau County police said.

All lanes were reopened at 7:27 a.m., according to the New York State Department of Transportation website.

It was not immediately clear how many vehicles were involved in the accident.

Police initially characterized the accident as being "significant" and said there were injuries, but later said all were considered "non-life-threatening." It was not clear how many people were injured or if anyone was hospitalized.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
