Passenger critically injured when tractor trailer rear-ends car on LIE

A 31-year-old passenger is in critical condition after a tractor trailer collided with the car he was in on the Long Island Expressway near North Hills on Friday night, according to the Nassau County Police Department.
The crash happened shortly before midnight near Exit 34. Police said the 31-year-old man was one of two passengers in a 2023 Honda Civic that was rear-ended by a 2011 Mack tractor trailer being driven by a 53-year-old man going west.
The Civic was driven by a 32-year-old man. The second passenger is a 33-year-old man. Both were "treated for minor injuries" at nearby hospitals, according to police.
The truck driver was not injured.
The 31-year old remained in critical condition as of early Saturday afternoon. A police spokesperson could not provide further information about his condition on Saturday afternoon
An investigation into the crash is ongoing, the department wrote in a news release.
