Emergency crews are still trying to determine what caused a power outage Tuesday night at Jones Beach State Park, and Long Island Power Authority officials said several areas of the beach remained without electricity Wednesday night.

The outages were first reported Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., LIPA spokeswoman Vanessa Baird-Streeter said.

Power to the West Bath House and Field 2 still had not been restored as of 11 p.m. Wednesday, though LIPA said power to the U.S. Coast Guard Station and to facilities east of Field 2 have been restored. The theater was not affected.

Despite not being able to identify the cause of the outage, Baird-Streeter said Wednesday night that workers had secured the area where they believe the fault was taking place.

Baird-Streeter said crews have been on scene since about 7 p.m. Tuesday attempting to find and repair a fault in the underground feeder cable that supplies electrical power to the beach facilities.

"They are still there now, troubleshooting," she said.
