Man, 74, shot to death,

woman, 72, injured

A 74-year-old man died from a single gunshot and a 72-year-old woman was in critical condition after she was shot twice in Westbury on Saturday night, Nassau County police said.

Police responded to a call of a person shot at a home on Waterbury Lane about 9:40 p.m. They found the woman, who was taken to a hospital for treatment, and the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation is ongoing. Nassau police said Sunday morning that they did not immediately have further details.

Freeport man found dead

after shooting in alley

A Freeport man was shot to death in Roosevelt on Saturday afternoon, Nassau County police said yesterday.

Members of an emergency crew pronounced Sayvon Marcus Burt, 21, dead at the scene after the shooting, which occurred at 4:15 p.m. Saturday in an alley near the intersection of Park and Lakewood avenues, police said.

The county's Shot Spotter system, an acoustic gunfire surveillance monitor, picked up the sounds of gunfire and a 911 call came in soon after reporting the shooting, police said.

Police are asking anyone with information about the homicide to come forward.
