Glen Cove school crossing guard struck, injured by SUV, police say
A Glen Cove school crossing guard was struck by a sport utility vehicle on Dosoris Lane while helping pedestrians to cross an intersection Thursday morning, Glen Cove police said
Det. Lt. John Nagle said in an email that the collision happened at the intersection of Maple Avenue in Glen Cove.
Police said Carlos Vasquez, 58, of Glen Cove, was helping people cross the intersection when he was struck by the SUV. The vehicle, driven by an 82-year-old Bayville resident, was traveling south on Dosoris Lane.
The crossing guard suffered head injuries and was airlifted to the hospital and was in critical condition, the email said.
The unidentified driver of the SUV remained at the scene and has not been charged. Police are investigating.
