DA: Roosevelt woman stole $100,000-plus from bank customers

A Roosevelt woman has been indicted on 106 counts of fraud after she stole more than $100,000 from Chase Bank by impersonating and withdrawing money from the accounts of seven people, prosecutors said Monday.

Nefertiti Garnett, 32, conducted at least 35 transactions involving her victims' accounts, the Manhattan district attorney's office announced.

She was indicted on June 25, but the district attorney announced the case Monday after indicting a second woman - Zoe Walmsley of New York - on 80 counts of fraud involving Chase customers, including one individual also defrauded by Garnett, prosecutors said.

Both women allegedly used stolen personal information and bank account numbers at branches in New York and New Jersey. The district attorney said it is continuing to investigate for overlap between the cases.

Garnett pleaded not guilty last month.
