DA: Unlicensed contractor who stole from Sandy victims back in court

An unlicensed contractor who pleaded guilty in October to stealing thousands of dollars from superstorm Sandy victims was in court again Thursday, when he pleaded guilty to stealing from two property management companies, prosecutors said.

Rodrigo Leiton, 51, of Lynbrook, entered a guilty plea to the latest charges of two counts of fourth-degree grand larceny and two counts of petty larceny for stealing $2,000 from one Lynbrook property management company in October 2012 and stealing an industrial air-conditioning unit from another in July, according to Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice's office.

In October, Leiton had also pleaded guilty before Nassau District Court Judge Erica Prager to third-degree grand larceny for stealing thousands of dollars from four Nassau homeowners who hired him to fix damage caused by superstorm Sandy.

Prager ordered Leiton to pay more than $12,000 upfront to his victims in both cases at his sentencing on Feb. 26, 2015.

Leiton is represented by the Legal Aid Society, which does not comment on individual cases.
