Children and workers were evacuated just before a partial roof collapse Friday at a child day-care center in Plainview, Nassau County police said.

A police spokesman said a call came in at about 2 p.m. about a leaking roof at a day-care center on Washington Avenue.

The Nassau police Emergency Services Unit responded and evacuated the building before the collapse from what apparently was heavy rain, the spokesman said.

There were no reported injuries, and the spokesman did not know the number of children or workers at the school.
