Death of man hit by train probed as suicide
The death Wednesday morning of a Glenwood Landing man who was hit by a train near the Glen Head station is being investigated as a suicide, a Long Island Rail Road spokesman said.
The man, 58, struck at about 11:15 a.m. by a westbound train on the Oyster Bay branch, was not authorized to be on the tracks, spokesman Sam Zambuto said Thursday of the ongoing MTA police investigation.
Zambuto said the man was not at a crossing when the 10:28 a.m. train from Oyster Bay hit him about a half-mile west of the station.
Police canceled that train and three others as they collected information from the scene, Zambuto said.
Bus service was provided for customers between Mineola and Oyster Bay, he said, and full rail service on the Oyster Bay branch was restored at about 1:15 p.m.
