New York State Police arrested a motorcyclist Sunday after, they said, he led them on a high-speed chase that began on the Wantagh State Parkway.

Dennis W. Vogel, 48, of Wantagh was arrested on charges of fleeing from police, driving while intoxicated and driving without a license, said State Police Sgt. Evan Dick.

Vogel was traveling north on the parkway shortly after 4:30 p.m. when a trooper attempted to pull him over for speeding, Dick said. Vogel ignored the trooper and got off on the Merrick Road exit heading east. The trooper followed Vogel for several blocks, but at one point lost sight of the motorcycle, Dick said.

He later spotted Vogel near Nassau County Police's Seventh Police Precinct in Seaford. As Vogel attempted to flee, he crashed into a parked car, Dick said.

Vogel suffered scrapes to his leg, nose and chin, but refused medical treatment, police said. He remained in State Police custody late Sunday night, at the agency's Farmingdale office.
