Device's low battery triggers alert outside Plainview bank
A beeping noise that caused Nassau County police Emergency Services Unit officers to be dispatched to a mailbox in Plainview Wednesday turned out to be from a BlackBerry-type device being sent for repairs, police said.
The strange noise coming from the mailbox outside Chase Bank on South Oyster Bay Road was reported about 9:55 a.m. Officers sent to the scene found the beeping sound was coming from the device, which was being mailed to a repair center, police said.
Apparently, the beeping was caused by a low battery in the device.
Police said no buildings were evacuated and nothing suspicious was found in the mailbox.
