The eastbound Northern State Parkway in North Hempstead Town will be closed during the late night and overnight hours as crews rip up the "distressed" pavement and lay down a new surface, state transportation officials said.

The work is underway on the eastbound lanes between Wantagh State Parkway, which is Exit 33, and the Long Island Expressway, which is Exit 37A, officials said in a news release. Those lanes will be closed 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. weekdays for a month, the agency said.

The worn, top layer will be replaced with new asphalt, and when that's done, the repaving job will begin on the westbound parkway in the spring.

Tully Construction Co. has been contracted for the job, the state said.

The work is weather dependent, officials said, so motorists may call 511 or go to 511NY.org for travel information.

State officials also reminded drivers of the move-over law, which requires motorists to slow down or move one travel lane away from emergency response vehicles and hazard vehicles, such as tow trucks, when its lights are flashing.
