Driver, 22, killed in Northern crash

A Flushing man was killed Tuesday when his car struck a light pole and then a tree on the Northern State Parkway in Lake Success, State Police said.

Omar Ripalda, 22, was driving a 1996 Acura west on the parkway near Lakeville Road at 11:37 p.m. when his vehicle left the road and struck the pole and tree on the north shoulder, police said in a Wednesday news release.

Nassau County emergency medical technicians pronounced Ripalda dead at the scene. There were no passengers, police said.

State Police said the accident investigation is ongoing.
