The trooper got a description of the driver, the car and license-plate information and then found a blue Oldsmobile at a Mobile gas station on Bellmore Avenue, just south of the parkway.

When approached by police, the suspect ran away on foot before being caught without incident, police said.

Police said the Oldsmobile's driver, Louis Esposito, 52, of 2644 Hewlett Lane, was arrested on charges of felony unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, driving a vehicle without an and leaving the scene of an accident. Court records show Esposito pleaded guilty last year to driving while ability impaired by drugs. As part of his eight-month sentence, his license was revoked.

Esposito was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
