Driver fired after child left behind on bus

A school bus driver who didn't spot a sleeping 6-year-old boy and dropped his bus off Monday morning has been fired, Pierce Coach Line Inc. said Tuesday.
The driver, who was not identified, and a school staff member "failed to walk the bus" to be sure all children were off, said Troy Pierce, the Roslyn bus company's operations director.
Sean Feldt, 6, was returned safely to the Cherry Lane School in Carle Place after school staff realized he was missing, said his grandfather, David Feldt, 53, of Westbury. Feldt was told Sean, who has autism, was asleep when found in the bus depot less than an hour after students had been dropped at school.
Sean's mother, Crystal Feldt, 28, said she was saddened the driver was fired because he "was a nice guy." Still, "they did make a very big mistake."
