Driver flees on foot after traffic stop

Nassau police have been searching for a man who ran out of his car Thursday night after an officer tried to pull him over for a traffic stop in Bethpage.

The attempted traffic stop occurred shortly before 9 p.m., police said.

It's not clear whether the driver crashed or stopped at Berkshire Road and Rice Street, but his vehicle came to a stop and he fled. A police helicopter and patrol officers were searching for him Thursday night, police said.
