A driver crossed into the opposite lanes of traffic on Carman Avenue in Salisbury Tuesday, crashing into a tree and closing the roadway for nearly three hours, Nassau County police said.

Police Tuesday afternoon said the driver, a man, was taken to Nassau University Medical Center with chest injuries. A police spokesman had no details on the seriousness of his injuries.

The man was driving southbound on Carman Avenue and then crossed the roadway and hit a tree, the police spokesman said.

Carman Avenue was closed in both directions, between Melody Lane and Murray Driver, from about 10:15 a.m. to shortly after 1 p.m., police said, as authorities investigated the accident.
