The driver of this Mustang was seriously injured after colliding into an empty school bus at Prospect Avenue and Rushmore Street in New Cassel. (Dec. 6, 2011) Credit: Kevin Imm

A 68-year-old woman was seriously injured when the 2010 Ford Mustang convertible she was driving smashed into the back of a parked school bus in New Cassel on Tuesday morning, shearing off the roof of the car and lodging under the bus.

There were no students on the bus at the time of the accident. Police said the 34-year-old bus driver was hospitalized with minor injuries.

The accident occurred at 8:55 a.m. at Prospect Avenue and Rushmore Street.

Police said the cause of the accident is under investigation.

Police originally said the driver of the Mustang was a man.
